ORGANIC ARCHITECTURE
ESSENCE AND EDUCATION
This book is now being prepared for publication.
Upon encountering a work of organic architecture, most people are delighted with the experience. Yet they return to the dismal scenes they have always known, and when they build, they get more of the same. If they like organic architecture, then why are they not getting it?
This book investigates the root causes of the problem, especially architectural education. The purpose of this book is not to criticize the establishment, but to inspire a wondrous transformation. This is the alternative education for an alternative architecture.
The first part of the book describes the various principles of organic architecture along with some methods for achieving the best results.
The second part of the book is devoted to a discussion of alternative education for architecture. It describes the methods used by several architectural schools that have inspired their students to create highly imaginative and sensitive works of architecture.
For high school students contemplating entering the typical architectural schools, there is the recommendation that they study everything written by and about Frank Lloyd Wright that they can get their hands on and see and experience as many of his works as possible in order to thoroughly understand his work and philosophy. With this understanding of what makes great architecture, the student should be able to cope with the situations presented by the usual less-than-inspired institutions of architectural education.
